James Carew was a happy and loving 8 year old boy. James’ love was given to everyone he came in contact with. He showed his love through his incredible hugs and his happy and loving presence. He always had a smile on his face and an infectious giggle that  warmed your heart; James exuded love and kindness.

He loved his school and being with his peers. James had special needs and attended Newbury Elementary School where he was placed in an inclusive classroom. He loved going to school, with his friends of all ages, and walking the halls of NES!

James loved the simple things in life, such as books, listening to music, his stuffed monkey, Charlie, and most importantly connecting with people. James loved reading books, especially with other people. It was his way of communicating and connecting with you.

His older brother Jack, came up with the phrase, “Live like James, Love like James”. This phrase captures the very essence of James’ short life. To live simply and love deeply.

We hope through James’ Foundation that his memory can live on through programs and events that continue his mission of spreading love through reading programs and participating with peers in the best parts of childhood.

We intend to bring literacy to all by holding an annual book drive around James’ birthday and donating these children’s books to various charities.

Inclusion in school was incredible for James’ progress and his happiness with his peers. We hope to give children with all abilities the opportunity to feel included and participate fully in summer camp and outside school activities. That’s why we created the James Carew Scholarship. This scholarship will provide students with special needs the opportunity to be included in the Spencer-Pierce Little Farmers Camp. The scholarship would provide an instructional assistant to attend the camp with the student. The scholarship would also pay the fee for the camp.

We hope to spread James’ love through hugs and reminding people to love deeply and show those you care about how you love them. “Live like James, Love like James”.
